The Opportunity
 
The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C) is seeking an SES Band 1 officer to lead the Shared Services Branch. PM&C currently provide shared corporate services to the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA), the National Drought and North Queensland Flood Response and Recovery Agency (NDNQFRRA) and the National Bushfire Recovery Agency (NBRA), with the branch delivering the following service offerings:
 
  • Accounts receivable and payable,
  • Credit cards and travel,
  • Financial systems and financial governance, 
  • Procurement and contracts,
  • Client services and fleet services, and
  • Payroll.
 
As Branch Head, you will have responsibility for leading the efficient and effective delivery of shared services to customer agencies. In this role, you will drive the strategic direction of PM&C’s shared services platforms and service offering, working with key stakeholders both internal and external to PM&C to achieve continuous improvement and deliver high quality outcomes. In your capacity as Branch head, you will make a significant contribution to the successful operation of the Department, devising best practice and innovative solutions across the spectrum of services.

You will be responsible for:
  • Providing strategic direction and leadership for the shared services arrangements within PM&C and across customer agencies,
  • Lead a complex program of integration across organisations,
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with customer agency executives and other key stakeholders,
  • Drive innovation and improvement to platforms, processes and services,
  • Understanding of MOU development, implementation and monitoring.

To be a strong contender for this role, you will need to be a first class leader with a strong financial management background and a demonstrated record of achievement in the provision of strategic advice. Your intellectual rigour, client focused approach and the ability to manage competing demands and work to tight deadlines will be complemented by excellent communication skills, an understanding of the expectations of Executive and a personal style that engenders trust and respect.

You will have:
  • Experience working in a complex delivery environment,
  • A strong background in finance, payroll, procurement and other enabling services,
  • Well-developed communication skills and the ability to negotiate with a diversity of stakeholders,
  • Relationship management skills with the ability to navigate through challenging situations while remaining calm and measured under pressure, 
  • Keen eye for detail, Robust problem-solving instincts, proven in a fast-paced environment, and
  • The ability to bridge across multiple, often competing, interests to succeed in delivering enterprise-level outcomes across organisations.
 
The occupant of this position is considered an Officer under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and is required to exercise due diligence in complying with their obligations under this Act.
