About the role

As Export Controls Officer, you will be reporting to the Associate Director, Research Governance and Quality. In the senior position you will be responsible for proactively developing, refining and implementing University–wide frameworks to support awareness of, and compliance with, the Defence Trade Controls Act, Autonomous Sanctions Act and other cognate schemes.

Significant synergies with Foreign Interference assessments and emerging imperatives under the University Foreign Interference Taskforce Guidelines mean that the scope and reach of this role is dynamic and evolving. 

Your day to day role will be diverse and encompass transactional-based advice work; regulatory compliance (including liaison with Commonwealth regulators for permits); input into law reform proposals; articulation of risk; education and training responsibilities and significant partner liaison and profile-raising activity.

About you

Your ability to engage proactively, be agile and demonstrate initiative will allow you to be successful in this role.

You will have: 

  1. Law degree, or post-graduate qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent mix of education and relevant experience;
  2. Track-record of delivering a high-volume of complex, transaction-based advice;
  3. Experience in working collaboratively as part of a team, influencing stakeholders and profile-building of a shared service across business units;
  4. Capacity to understand and interpret technical and complex legislation, and provide relevant, plain English advice to a range of stakeholders, including at senior levels;
  5. Knowledge of the research context, in fields relevant to controlled dual use technologies (ie STEMM disciplines);
  6. Proven capability to provide successful service-orientated senior research administration and support, organisation and planning skills, attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement;
  7. Proven capability in the development and delivery of education and training materials to diverse academic and researcher audiences.
