Remuneration: Grade 5 $88,827,02 - $93,149.63 (commensurate with qualifications and experience) as per WRC Enterprise Agreement plus annual leave, superannuation 10.5%, and access to salary sacrificing arrangements

The Welfare Rights Centre has received funding from the Federal Government for 12 months to support the relief and recovery efforts from the 2019-20 bushfire disasters. Your role will be to facilitate the delivery of social security information, advice and ongoing legal assistance to individuals living in the bushfire-affected regions of NSW. This position will require travel to rural and regional areas of New South Wales and involve building relationships with community and/or government organisations in bushfire-affected regions.
You need to be well-organised, have experience liaising and building partnerships with community and/or government agencies, and have the ability to communicate complex information in an accessible way to a wide range of people.

Selection criteria
  1. Appropriate and relevant qualifications and experience:
  • Bachelor degree or other relevant tertiary qualification; and
  • At least three years’ experience working in a community or government agency requiring direct contact with economically and socially disadvantaged members of the community;
  • In the absence of tertiary qualifications, at least six years’ experience as a community liaison officer or similar role.
  1. Experience developing and managing relationships with, as well as presenting information to, community organisations and/or government agencies.
  2. Demonstrated ability to provide complex information in an accessible way to socially and economically disadvantaged people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
  3. Strong organisational and time management skills.
  4. Good written and oral communications skills, including skills communicating complex concepts in plain English.
  5. Ability to rapidly acquire a basic working knowledge of social security and family assistance laws, policies and procedures.
  6. Possession of drivers’ license and ability to travel throughout NSW.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to achieving social justice.
