Established in 1978, Broome Regional Aboriginal Medical Service (BRAMS) was the first remote Aboriginal Medical Service in Western Australia. About the Opportunity 

BRAMS now has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Psychologist or Accredited Mental Health Social Worker to join their Social and Emotional Wellbeing team in Broome, WA.

Reporting to the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Manager, you will be working with an experienced, multidisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based, culturally-safe psychological assessments and intervention.

More specifically, some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Conducting bio-psycho-social assessments, risk assessments, follow-up support and referrals;
  • Maintaining accurate client records, including the collection, collation and evaluation of relevant statistics and reports;
  • Utilising a holistic approach to health care that incorporates health promotion activities according to community and organisational priorities;
  • Ensuring client confidentiality and privacy at all times, in line with organisational, cultural and professional policies and guidelines; and
  • Liaising with internal and external service providers, as well as participating in supervision of provisional psychologists and psychology placement students.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will be fully qualified to practice as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist, or a Mental Health Social Worker, and hold relevant registration with the Psychology Board of Australia or Australian Association of Social Workers.

You will need a strong understanding of the health issues impacting the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with demonstrated experience working sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

A naturally collaborative team player, with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, you'll be able to adapt your communication style to work effectively with people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds.

Finally, you will need the resilience to work in an undeniably challenging environment, with the region seeing some of the highest suicide rates in the world. You'll have the personal maturity and strength to handle potentially confronting conversations and situations, and understand the importance of professional boundaries when working with clients. 

Please note: Prior to commencement you will need to undergo a National Police Clearance and obtain a current Ochre Card. A current Driver's License and the ability to drive to communities as required is also essential for this role.
