About the role

This position will be based in Wollongong. In this fantastic opportunity, you will work directly with children, young people and adults with an intellectual disability. You will be required to design, deliver, monitor and evaluate behaviour support services. Ideally, you will have an understanding of work practice issues in relation to the support of individuals with an intellectual disability presenting with challenging behaviour and complex needs and accessing centre-based respite services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with individual Service Users and their support networks to maximise opportunities to enhance the quality of life of the Service User and their family and/or carers.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of an inter/trans-disciplinary team in the implementation and development of behaviour support strategies in response to assessed need.
  • Undertake comprehensive assessment and analysis of behaviour; develop support plans and strategies in relation to assessment findings; coordinate implementation of behaviour support plans and related strategies; monitor; review; and evaluate identified outcomes.

Skills & Experience

  • Diploma in a relevant field or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
  • Previous experience in support work
  • Working knowledge of the issues, trends and philosophies underpinning the provision of services to children, young people and adults with an intellectual disability.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of an inter/trans-disciplinary team with a range of stakeholders including family, carers, guardians, case coordinators, other stakeholders and agencies throughout the life of a Service Agreement.
  • Ability to clearly and logically express ideas and to undertake behaviour assessment, analysis, design and implementation of effective support strategies.
  • Knowledge of the relevant legislation, policies, work practice requirements and procedures impacting on the delivery of services to children, young people and adults with an intellectual disability (including the Disability Services Act, 1993).
  • Demonstrated experience and well developed skills in providing behaviour support services for children, young people and adults with an intellectual disability who present with challenging behaviour and complex needs, and with their families, as well as those from

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).
