Community and Cultural Engagement Officer

SALARY RANGE: $78,117 to $84,361 pa effective 1 March 2018 (plus 17% super)
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-time (36.75 hours per week) and continuing
LOCATION: Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus

In this role you will provide advice to the Institute and at times the wider University on cultural engagement best practices for the region.

This will include:
  • Providing high-level cultural advice to the Institute on policy and procedural processes.
  • Coordinating cultural events and awareness campaigns for the Institute and wider University, working closely with the Marketing, Events and Project Officer.
  • When appropriate accompany the Marketing, Events and Project Officer on visits to community on behalf of the Institute.
  • Developing and implementing community engagement and outreach strategies and services to meet the goals outlined by the Institutes strategic plan.

Job Requirements:

  • Qualifications in community development or relevant field; OR Extensive experience and specialist knowledge of community engagement practices within the Victorian Aboriginal community.
  • An established knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and issues affecting Indigenous people in contemporary Australian society.
  • Experience in the facilitation of community and cultural relationships with specific experience in community engagement with Indigenous communities being highly regarded.
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively, including the requirement for proper negotiation and consultation with Indigenous people.
