About the Role

A fantastic opportunity exists for an Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander Cultural Support Planner to join our Shailer Park and Robina Office.

This position is responsible for the development, review and implementation of cultural support plans for all children and young people of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander descent.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain relationships with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and to identify and explore alternative sources of information to fulfil the individual cultural heritage components of the cultural support plan, while working with children or young people, family, Life Without Barriers case managers and relevant government agency staff.

Skills and Experience
  • Have extensive knowledge of issues impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities in contemporary society and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Hold a tertiary qualification in Human Services or related discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Have the ability to develop and implement cultural plans.
  • Have an understanding of issues faced by children and young people in Out of Home Care.
  • Have an ability to work within a team environment and able to work independently.
  • Have demonstrated ability to manage work and meet competing demands and deadlines.
  • Have sound written and verbal communication skills.

  • Life Without Barriers considers that being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent is a genuine occupational requirement as outlined in section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act (1991) and permitted as a 'special measure' under section 8 of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and by articles 1(4) and 2(2) of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
  • You will be required to provide contact details for a cultural referee who can comment on your knowledge of issues impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities in contemporary society and your ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The cultural referee must identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
  • You may be requested to provide confirmation that you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
All positions within Life Without Barriers will be required to undergo probity checks including criminal record checks and working with children check.
