  • North Sydney, full & part time positions available, initially 15 month contract

 

The Organisation
  
Blue Knot Foundation (BKF) is the National Centre of Excellence for Complex Trauma, empowering recovery and building resilience for adults impacted by complex trauma.   
  
With funding from the Department of Social Services, BKF has been approached to operate the Counselling and Referral Line for people affected by the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability.  This is a unique opportunity to play a part in significant social change.
  
The service will operate seven days a week and will provide counselling, support and referral services to people impacted by the Royal Commission (RC), including survivors, guardians, family members, carers, advocates and other people affected by the RC.


The Role
  
This position offers trauma-informed, person-centred, disability and culturally aware counselling, support, information and referrals to callers from around Australia. 
  
The work involves understanding and responding to callers’ needs with an ability to connect with people with a range of disabilities, ages and backgrounds.  You will deliver information on a range of issues and provide warm referrals and links to on-going supports. 

Additionally you will:
  • Provide counselling and support to people making contact through diverse access modes
  • Adhere to best practice clinical protocols in working with complex trauma and disability
  • Promote safety, trust, choice, collaboration and empowerment
  • Work cooperatively with a creative and agile team
  • Attend to self-care by attending professional development and regular supervision

Job Requirements:

Skills Required

You have a background providing counselling to survivors of complex trauma and/or violence, people with disabilities, and/or in mental health.  You are flexible, can work in a fast paced, pressured environment with fluctuating demands, and meet the unique demands arising from the RC and callers’ needs. 

Additionally you have:
  • Current membership or eligibility to a relevant professional body
  • Qualifications in counselling, social work or psychology
  • A person-centred approach to working with people
  • Ability to work independently, and in a team with a high degree of professionalism
  • Experience working with the dynamics and impacts of trauma
  • An understanding in referring to a range of counselling and support services
  • Skill in risk assessment and management and crisis intervention
  • An ability to quickly develop working relationships and to engage effectively
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and human rights
  • Availability and willingness to work full or part time shifts on a 7-day roster, with fixed week day shifts and rotating weekend shifts
