Legal Aid NSW is the largest legal aid agency in Australia, comprising of a Central Sydney office and 23 regional offices in metropolitan and regional centres across NSW and a number of specialist services and advice clinics. ABOUT THE ROLE

 

The position is responsible for: 

• Providing high quality advice, minor assistance and casework service to disadvantaged communities.

• Conducting an effective legal practice.

• Complying with the Legal Aid Commission Act, policies and practice management standards and undertake all related administrative and case management activities.


ABOUT YOU


You will have a passion for assisting disadvantaged people obtain access to justice. We are looking for outstanding solicitors with relevant skills and experience to provide targeted, high quality advice, minor assistance and casework services in areas of law conducted by the Civil Law Division to socially and economically disadvantaged people. The successful applicants will be able to communicate effectively with clients and a diverse range of stakeholders.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

 

• Admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW

 

• Ability to provide a valid Practising Certificate upon commencement 

 

• Willingness to undertake a Criminal Record Check and/or working with Children Check

 

• Hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Resident or hold a valid working visa (for temporary vacancies); or Hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Resident (for ongoing vacancies)

1. This position will be based in south west Sydney. What attracts you to working in the Civil law Division at Legal Aid NSW and explain how your skills and experience prepares you to effectively advise and represent disadvantaged clients, in particular those from CALD communities, in a range of settings including outreach and in-house advice clinics, dispute resolution forums,  tribunals and courts.

 

2. Please outline your knowledge of and experience in providing civil law services in one or more of the following areas of civil law: consumer, fines, human rights, employment, housing or social security.

 

 


The selection process will include a range of comparative assessment techniques to assist in determining capability and suitability for the role.
