Legal Aid NSW is the largest legal aid agency in Australia, comprising of a Central Sydney office and 26 regional offices in metropolitan and regional centres across NSW and a number of specialist services and advice clinics. ABOUT THE ROLE


Provide legal advice and representation to clients of Legal Aid NSW, including in more complex matters, in accordance with Legal Aid NSW policies and guidelines in order to contribute to the implementation of Legal Aid NSW’s mission to deliver high quality legal services to our clients and to assist them to resolve their legal problems. Supervise and lead junior legal staff in achieving this aim.


ABOUT YOU


The successful applicant will be an experienced senior criminal lawyer with an interest in working with people from a disadvantaged background. 

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

 

• Admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW 

 

• Ability to provide a valid Practising Certificate upon commencement 

 

• Willingness to undertake a Criminal Record Check and/or working with Children Check

 

• Hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency or hold a valid working visa

• cover letter (maximum 2 pages) responding to the following two questions:

 

1. Outline your skills and experience in leading and mentoring other solicitors in providing a high quality legal service.

 

2. Outline your skills and experience in representing clients in committal/indictable proceedings and negotiating appropriate outcomes.


The selection process will include a range of comparative assessment techniques to assist in determining capability and suitability for the role.


This recruitment will be used to fill any current vacancies and to create an Ongoing & Temporary Combined Aboriginal & Non Aboriginal Statewide Talent Pool for similar future vacancies that may arise over the next 12 months.

 

Internal ongoing employees at level (or above) must apply for inclusion in the Legal Officer Grade l-lll (Crime Statewide) Talent Pool to be considered for re-assignment. Internal applicants with ongoing roles will automatically be included in the Legal Officer Grade l-lll (Crime Statewide) Talent Pool  subject to confirmation of satisfactory performance by their manager.

 

Internal temporary employees activated from the current Legal Officer Grade l-lll (Crime Statewide) Talent Pool will automatically be included in the Legal Officer Grade l-lll (Crime Statewide) Talent Pool subject to confirmation of satisfactory performance by their Manager.
