The Opportunity:
The NIAA Regional Network leads engagement with communities, other stakeholders and government agencies to drive outcomes in the Government’s three key Indigenous policy areas of lifting education outcomes, improving employment and economic opportunities and ensuring safer communities.

The Adviser shows leadership and engagement skills to shape, drive and deliver social and economic outcomes within the Top End and Tiwi Islands (TETI) Region. The positions would be responsible for driving a place-based approach and economic prosperity projects in key communities of focus across the TETI Region.

The role builds and maintains relationships across governments, with service providers, Indigenous leaders and communities at the local level to identify and build on opportunities for collaboration.

The TETI Region has a broad geographical footprint in the Northern Territory. The positions will have a key focus on communities in the Katherine Region and may include Ngukurr, Wadeye, Lajamanu and Darwin region.
Our Ideal Candidates:
We are looking for someone who will:

  • Be able to lead community engagement in identified Blueprint Strategy priority communities, including development of place-based and project plans that articulate the Department’s roles and responsibilities for an identified priority community.
  • Be able to build and sustain positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, recognising shared agendas and working towards mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Support PM&Cs Top End and Tiwi Islands Leadership Group in implementing its transformational and recalibration agendas across the region.
  • Save a strong understanding of project planning and delivery, including grants administration.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills which will allow you to help the community understand government policies, resolve issues through consultation and persuasion.
  • Establish trusting relationships and respect with key people in the community,
  • Have excellent judgement and decision making skills, and be able to identify and develop solutions for issues or problems that may have a negative impact on government or the local community.
  • Coach guide and develop your employees, mentor staff, build cooperation within the team.
