Adviser, Indigenous Portfolio Agencies Section


Job Description:

The Opportunity:
Indigenous Portfolio Agencies Section in Legal Services Branch is looking for talented EL1 and APS6 candidates to fill ongoing opportunities. The section collaborates with the respective NIAA policy areas to provide governance oversight of 11 Indigenous Portfolio Agencies (IPAs) and three Statutory Office Holders. This includes monitoring the governance arrangements and accountabilities of these bodies and Office Holders.

Responsibilities include: advice and support to the Minister and executive on governance arrangements and issues management, including IPA accountability and transparency to the Minister and Parliament; work with the Department of Finance and the Agencies to improve alignment with government priorities; provide ongoing support on Corporate Plans and Annual Report compliance and tabling; facilitate skill based statutory appointments giving priority to increasing Indigenous representation on boards across government, gender balance and diversity.

As part of the team, your duties will include:
  • Contributing to the day to day operations of the Section, including providing support on matters relating to Indigenous portfolio agencies.
Specific tasks will include:
  • Lead specific projects related to the functions of the team.
  • Undertake research and routine analysis activities.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external key stakeholders, including the Indigenous Portfolio agencies, as required.
  • Preparing timely and accurate information material and other written advice.
  • Organise, prioritise and monitor your own workload, and managing competing work priorities.
  • Assisting across the section functions, including appointments and appointments reporting, improving Indigenous Agency governance reporting as well as coordination and other processes.

You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, be able to work through sensitive issues with key policy areas as required and the Indigenous portfolio agencies, and maintain productive working relationships.
