Project Officers, Top End and Tiwi Island


Job Description:

The Opportunity:
The National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) is seeking Project Officers for Top End and Tiwi Island Branch. The position will report to the Team Leader, and will operate in a sub-region of the Big Rivers region. In the role, working with various stakeholders you will gain a strong understanding of the local communities, including priorities and aspirations. You will be working with various service providers funded by NIAA to support the implementation of the Indigenous Advancement Strategy, and more broadly towards the Closing the Gap targets. There is potential that Housing may be supported in Katherine.
Our Ideal Candidates:
To fill the role, we are looking for all-rounders who are comfortable traveling remote and working with Indigenous communities, but also able to learn systems and processes. They will also possess the following skills/experience:
  • Demonstrated analytical, research and problem solving skills,
  • An understanding of complex social and economic concepts,
  • Ability to maintain a strong understanding of local community needs and of the services being provided within the community by government and non-government organisations and other investments,
  • Ability to work responsively and in partnership with communities, other government agencies and service providers to broker local solutions that are tailored to local needs,
  • Ability to identify emerging opportunities or issues, and respond quickly to competing priorities as they emerge Ability to understand contracts and support contract management,
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse financial data,
  • Demonstrated flexibility, good judgement and political nous,
  • Demonstrated proactive leadership that provides staff with tools and expectations to deliver high quality, client focused outcomes,
  • Ability to oversee and monitor the administrative activities of staff members,
  • Ability to provide constructive management to staff with a focus on capability development of staff, team building and talent management.
