The Opportunity
This position requires a driven person who is able to work with a high degree of autonomy and able to build and maintain strategic relationships in the community. A high impact leadership role, the Employment and Education Program Manager leads a team of Employment and Education Specialists to provide quality Individual Placement and Support (IPS) vocation services to young people aged up to 25 experiencing mental ill-health across Orygen’s clinical services in the West and North West region of Melbourne.

The role and your impact
Full-time fixed term position available until 30 June 2022, with opportunity for further employment.
The Employment and Education Program Manager is responsible for and committed to:
  • Leading a team to achieve significant outcomes in the delivery of IPS programs and other related programs that aim to tackle the problem of high youth unemployment and improve the educational and employment outcomes of young people aged up to 25 with mental ill-health.
  • Building and maintaining strategic relationships in the community to create sustainable employment outcomes and life changing impact for all young people accessing the IPS or related programs.
  • Lead quality and compliance of programs, including develop a data framework to monitor, analyse and report on program success and trends in youth employment, education and training in a timely manner.
  • Develop operational program resources and processes and coordinate the implementation of key projects, in line with contractual requirements and being responsible for monitoring and achieving budgets and funding programs.
  • Coordinate IPS steering committee meetings to improve service delivery and provide vocational program updates and training workshops to clinical teams, community groups and other vocational recovery organisations.
Salary and benefits

Job Requirements:

About you
Essential to this role and to be considered:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in the area of education, youth, community services or a related field.
  • Demonstrated high level knowledge and understanding of youth mental health and practice in the areas of education, employment and disadvantage among young people in the Australian context:
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues that impact young people when accessing employment and/or educational opportunities.
  • Significant experience in employment services, vocational rehabilitation, career development or a related field, including Centrelink and other state and federal employment initiatives that impact young people.
  • An understanding of the Individual Placement and Support model.
  • Experience in leading a team to develop and deliver quality youth vocational services.
  • Experience driving projects, compliance of contract requirements, funding and budgets.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining strategic business relationships to further growth opportunities.
  • High level written, verbal and visual communication skills, including extensive experience in preparing internal and external reports in a timely manner.
  • Well-developed problem solving and analysis skills.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Ability to learn and improve relevant administrative procedures, including data management, software applications and filing systems.
