Legal Aid NSW is the largest legal aid agency in Australia, comprising of a Central Sydney office and 25 regional offices in metropolitan and regional centres across NSW and a number of specialist services and advice clinics. The position is responsible for: 

 • Providing high quality advice, minor assistance and casework services to vulnerable and disadvantaged clients in areas such as stolen generations, consumer, mental health, human rights, employment, housing, immigration, social security, and/or coronial inquests or other areas of civil law

• Conducting an effective legal practice

• Undertaking outreach, conducting community legal education, and engaging with stakeholders

• Complying with the Legal Aid Commission Act, policies and practice management standards and undertake all related administrative and case management activities




You will have a passion for assisting disadvantaged people obtain access to justice. We are looking for outstanding solicitors with relevant skills and experience to provide targeted, high quality advice, minor assistance and casework services to socially and economically disadvantaged people. The successful applicant will be able to communicate effectively with clients and a diverse range of stakeholders.


This recruitment will be used to form a talent pool (valid for 18 months) of suitable candidates to be drawn upon when temporary or ongoing vacancies occur across any of our NSW metro or regional offices.

Job Requirements:

• Admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW
• Ability to provide a valid Practising Certificate upon commencement
• Willingness to undertake a Criminal Record Check and/or working with Children Check

• cover letter (maximum 2 pages) responding to the following two questions:
1. Please outline the strategies you would put in place as a Civil Law Legal Officer to increase access to justice for people who experience social and economic disadvantage. Please refer to any relevant experience in your response.
2. Please outline your experience managing a diverse, complex and busy workload.
The selection process will include a range of comparative assessment techniques to assist in determining capability and suitability for the role.

This recruitment will be used to create a Talent Pool for similar future temporary or ongoing vacancies that may arise over the next 18 months.
