* Full-time, continuing position, based at the RMIT City Campus (part-time may be available)

About the position

The Manager, Indigenous Education will be part of the Learning Experience team and will work proactively with educators on a variety of initiatives to support Indigenous education within VE programs. The incumbent will liaise with stakeholders across the University, industry and in local communities to improve educational materials and embed culturally appropriate teaching and assessment practices.

The role will work across program and delivery areas and provide advocacy, advice and direction to program managers, coordinators and teachers around strategies to uplift the curriculum to include and be respectful of indigenous cultures and different ways of learning.

About you

To be successful in this position, you'll have as a minimum:

* 'Aboriginality' or 'Must be of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage' is an 'Essential Selection Criteria' for this identified position.

* Capacity to design strategies and initiatives aimed at improving cultural safety in an educational setting.

* The capability and commitment to continue to develop Indigenous perspectives in the curricula.

* Experience working with diverse stakeholder groups and to influence and negotiate to effectively improve Indigenous education outcomes.

* The ability to communicate sensibly and appropriately with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

* Experience in building productive relationships with a range of key stakeholders which include Indigenous community, industry partners and internal business units.

* Experience in high level reporting and analysis, with the ability to write and present concisely and effectively.

* Proven organisational and project management skills and the ability to prioritise work, work to deadlines and undertake several parallel projects.

Essential qualifications

Relevant proven experience in a liaison role in either the education sector or a relevant industry sector such as Community Services, Education or Health Promotion.

Experience in a teaching/internal education role is essential, and a Certificate IV Training & Assessment qualification is required with a diploma of VET highly desirable.
