About Us

Established in 2006, Boorndawan Willam Aboriginal Healing Service (BWAHS) provides a range of services and programs to Aboriginal individuals and families who are experiencing, at risk of experiencing family violence, or use violence. Currently BWAHS is one of 4 Aboriginal specific state funded healing services in Victoria. 

BWAHS has skilled qualified staff and comprehensive experience with culturally safe delivery of child, youth and family services for Aboriginal people. They provide family violence risk assessment, safety planning, case co-ordination and support including referrals to the Risk Assessment Management Panel. They have developed an excellent record for providing high quality family violence and trauma informed Intensive Case Management, Integrated Family Services responses and evidence-based therapeutic programs to individuals and groups for a whole of family approach.

What you'll do

BWAHS currently has an opportunity for an ambitious individual, to start their career as an Administrator / Receptionist in a Mens Family Violence Services organisation, based in Lilydale, Melbourne on a permanent full-time basis.

Reporting to the Office Manager, you will be responsible for managing the front desk of the Lilydale office and performing a variety of administrative and clerical tasks.

Your scope of responsibilities will include, but will not be confined to:

  • Answering, screening, logging and forwarding incoming phone calls;
  • Providing basic and accurate information in-person and via phone/email;
  • Receiving, sorting and distributing daily mail/deliveries; and
  • Performing other secretarial duties such as filling, photocopying etc.

What we want from you!

The ideal candidate will have a relevant qualification (Certificate) in business administration or similar in addition to some prior work experience in a relevant role. It is important to note that individuals who are looking to kickstart their career in Business Administration will also be considered, provided they have the right aptitude for the role and are willing to learn.

To be successful, you will require excellent time management and organisational skills in addition to computer proficiency with platforms such as Microsoft Office. You will also require well-developed interpersonal communication skills, allowing you to work effectively as part of a small team and openly communicate with clients who come through the door. It is imperative that you also possess an understanding of contemporary Aboriginal culture and the history of intergenerational trauma that exists. 

Most importantly, it is imperative that you have a commitment to privacy and confidentiality and are able to contribute to a positive workplace culture. You will be excited to embrace opportunities to advance your career and take on professional development where available. 

Please note: You must have a Current Victorian Driver's License, a satisfactory Police Check, Working With Children's Check (WWCC) and a basic first-aid qualification or a willingness to obtain these checks.
