Freedom of Information (FOI) and Privacy Advisor


Job Description:

Full-time, Continuing position
* Salary Level HEW 7 + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements
* Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University

About You

The Freedom of Information (FOI) and Privacy Advisor is responsible for processing Freedom of Information requests in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 1982 and RMIT's legislative obligations. The FOI and Privacy Advisor also assists and supports the RMIT Privacy Office with the administration of RMIT's privacy management framework and the provision of timely and effective advice to internal and external stakeholders.

As the FOI and Privacy Advisor, you will have the ability to work flexibly and under pressure to meet tight deadlines, ensuring a high level of accuracy and quality in your work. You will have experience in preparing written correspondence that is of a high standard and excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills. You will also have experience in FOI and be able to support privacy work.

You will be comfortable with daily tasks including but not limited to reviewing the validity of information requests, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, assessing information for release and applying exemptions where required, drafting decisions on the release of information and dealing with and responding to privacy and FOI complaints. You will also support the functions of the Privacy Office by assisting in managing the workflow of privacy requests and privacy impact assessments and will provide technical advice on privacy and FOI requirements.

To be successful in this position, you'll have as a minimum:

* Demonstrated working knowledge of relevant freedom of information and privacy laws and significant experience processing FOI requests.
* Excellent attention to detail and a high-level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and SharePoint.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, influencing and relationship building skills.
* Demonstrated ability to provide advice, work independently, and to achieve objectives while operating within complex organisational structures.
* Excellent organisational and planning skills and ability to work to deadlines.

About the Group

The Governance, Legal and Strategic Operations group within RMIT attends to all governance matters for the University, is the central function for the provision of legal services and manages the enterprise central contracts team.
