Senior Governance Officer, Academic Board


Job Description:

Full-time (0.8 or 0.9 considered), Continuing position
* Salary Level HEW 9 + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements
* Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University

About You

Reporting to Executive Director - Governance, Legal and Strategic Operations you will provide support for the operations of Academic Board (64 members) and its (four) committees , oversees the administration and review of the university's statutes and regulations, and is responsible for the conduct of Academic Board elections, updates the Secretariat websites and publications and generally supports Secretariat communications. The role provides high quality governance support and advice to support best practice governance more generally. You may at times be required to work outside of scheduled hours in order to accommodate meetings and to achieve tasks within a given timeframe.

You will be seen as an expert within the area of governance providing expert advice. In return, we will consider applicants wishing to work full time or part time, with hybrid ways of working available.

To be successful in this position, you'll have:

* Relevant Bachelor's degree or above and/or relevant experience working in a university or corporate governance environment.
* An excellent understanding of university governance and/or corporate governance.
* Attention to detail in written and verbal work and ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organisation.
* Highly organised work practices with a proven ability to prioritise tasks and achieve deadlines with minimal guidance.
* Highly developed interpersonal skills with a proven ability to engage and influence stakeholders in a positive manner.
* High level of computer literacy including web-publishing skills.
* Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and deal discreetly with sensitive and difficult issues.
* Demonstrated influencing and negotiation skills.
* Appropriate qualification recognised by the Governance Institute (Graduate Diploma of Applied Corporate Governance or equivalent) and membership of a relevant professional association (e.g. Governance Institute, Australian Institute of Company Directors) would be highly regarded.

About the Portfolio

The Governance, Legal & Strategic Operations Portfolio provides strong integrated support for governance, legal and business planning for the University. The University Secretariat is responsible for coordinating the administration of secretariat support for the Chancellor, RMIT Council and its Committees, University controlled entities and Academic Board and its Committees.
