Coordinator, Research Governance & Ethics

* Full-time, Continuing position
* Salary Level HEW 7 + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements
* Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University

About You

To be successful in this role, you not only have knowledge and background in research governance and ethics, but you also have remarkable customer service skills, stakeholder management abilities and excellent communication. Overall, your interpersonal skills and ability to work with people of various backgrounds and different levels of the organization will lead you to success.

Position Summary

The Coordinator, Research Governance and Ethics will work within the Research Ethics, Integrity and Governance team in the Research and Innovation Portfolio, and across RMIT, to support the ethical and responsible conduct of research. Including, compliance with all relevant statutes, regulations and codes (including the National Statement for Ethical Conduct in Human Research, the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research, the Autonomous Sanctions Act 2011, the Defence Trade Controls Act 2012, NHMRC and ARC institutional policies, RMIT Policy and other relevant requirements). The incumbent will support and provide high-level governance advice and support as required to RMIT researchers and relevant committees, including the College Human Research Ethics Advisory Network. The incumbent will also facilitate and lead related education, training and continuous improvement initiatives (including investigative projects, refinements to business procedures and developme
nt of tools and resources) to support the development and implementation of policies, procedures and practices which foster a culture of responsible conduct of research practice at the School/College levels and across RMIT.

To be successful in this position, you'll have:

* Demonstrated working knowledge of research governance and ethics, including relevant guidelines, statutes, codes and regulations, and the ability to interpret, apply and explain these to researchers, ethics reviewers and other stakeholders.
* High level of commitment to service excellence, including a preparedness to proactively engage with stakeholders and persist with complex issues to achieve timely resolution.
* Strong interpersonal, influencing and negotiating skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with people at multiple levels (internal and external to RMIT) in a tactful, professional and co-operative manner. Due to the confidential and sensitive nature of information handled by this position, the demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and to use discretion wisely is essential.
* Demonstrated experience in the provision of high-level support and technical advice to governance structures and committees, preferably in a research and/or tertiary education environment.
* Demonstrated ability to organise, prioritise and complete multiple tasks set by different people, to a high standard whilst meeting timelines.
* Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills and an ability to develop and implement innovative and creative solutions.
* Demonstrated ability to work with digital technologies including hybrid meeting arrangements, online platforms and networks.
* Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team, as well as autonomously, with an emphasis on service excellence and continuous improvement.
* Demonstrated history of behaviour aligned to the RMIT values and professional capability framework
