About the role

We are seeking a full-time Aboriginal Practitioner to join The Orange Door team based in Box Hill, Victoria. This is an Identified position and only those who identify as Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander people will be considered for the role.

The Aboriginal Practitioner will provide culturally safe intake, assessment and planning to women, children, families, and men seeking support through The Orange Door. They will work within a specialist discipline to deliver Orange Door services and develop an understanding and the capabilities to work safely across family violence, perpetrator responses and child well-being (with appropriate training and supervision).

About us

Established in 2006, Boorndawan Willam Aboriginal Healing Service (BWAHS) is the lead specialist Aboriginal-specific family violence service that provides a service in the Eastern Metropolitan Region.

BWAHS provides a range of services and programs to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and families who are experiencing, at risk of experiencing, or using family violence.

BWAHS has developed an excellent record for providing high quality family violence and trauma informed Intensive Case Management, Integrated Family Services responses and evidence-based therapeutic programs to individuals and groups for a whole of family approach.

About you

  • Demonstrated understanding of Family Support Services and different models of intervention.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Intake processes, MARAM and assessment of risk.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in Family Violence and wellbeing
  • A Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain)
  • A Victorian Drivers Licence
  • Current COVID-19 vaccination (minimum one dose, prior to commencement)
