Communications Adviser, Communications Branch

The Opportunity:

PM&C’s Communications Branch delivers best practice communications to meet the needs of the Prime Minister, portfolio ministers, the Secretary, the Department and portfolio agencies. The Corporate Communications and Strategy team works with a variety of PM&C policy, program, corporate and executive clients spanning a broad range of subject matter and requirements to provide strategic advice and deliver innovative communications solutions across both internal and external channels.

We are looking to fill vacancies in the below positions:

APS 6 Corporate/Internal Communications Adviser - providing communications support to a wide range of areas across PM&C. This includes developing, implementing and evaluating communications strategies to promote departmental priorities; developing engaging content for PM&C’s internal communications channels and working closely with colleagues across the branch to leverage their expertise to develop best practice communications solutions.
APS 6 External Communications Adviser - developing, implementing and evaluating multi-channel communications strategies to promote the Government’s priorities; developing engaging written and digital content for PM&C’s external communications channels including PM&C’s website; working closely with colleagues across the Communications branch to leverage their expertise to develop best practice communications solutions.

Positions are based in Canberra.

We welcome candidates with backgrounds in government and non-government (including private and not-for-profit) who are interested in applying their skills to a diverse range of areas.
A merit pool may be established and used to fill the same of similar vacancies for 18 months from the date of advertising.

Capabilities and key duties:
  • a minimum of three years’ experience working in a communications role (strategic communications, corporate communications, internal communications or change communications).
  • tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism, marketing, media or equivalent professional experience.
  • highly developed written skills and the ability to target your communications to appeal to different audiences.
  • experience developing, implementing and evaluating successful communication strategies.
  • an understanding of data analytics, measurement and experience in undertaking evaluation reporting.
  • experience with developing engaging digital content.
  • the ability to develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • the ability to be flexible in addressing changing priorities.
  • excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • the ability to meet tight deadlines while managing competing priorities.
  • a willingness to work outside of normal business hours to meet deadlines and undertake travel if required.

  • The occupant must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected) level security clearance, or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level. 
  • The successful candidate will be required to be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check
