Job Description:

The Office of the CEO supports the Chief Executive Officer and two Deputy Chief Executive Officers with advice, coordination, and oversight of all executive functions, ensuring strategic level priorities are coordinated across the Agency.
 
The Public Affairs and Media team centrally manages all media engagement for the Agency, including handling of media enquiries, liaising across the organisation and with the Minister’s Office to prepare for and deliver announcements and media opportunities, and provides strategic communications advice on emerging issues.
 
Duties will include:
 
  • Lead a small team responsible for end-to-end management of media enquiries, media releases, talking points, messages, statements and CEO/Ministerial speeches.
  • Liaise with journalists, the Minister’s Office, other agencies, and across all levels of the NIAA to prepare, clear and deliver media products and other material for public release.
  • Monitor the media, political and wider societal environment to analyse and predict issues and provide media and communications advice to the Executive.
  • Oversee the Agency’s daily media report and media monitoring services.
  • Work closely with NIAA’s external and internal communications teams to ensure consistency is all communications activities.
  • The position includes some out-of-hours work.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume, high-pace workload and ability to manage competing priorities that can change quickly, while maintaining relationships and working productively in team environments.
  • Well-developed writing skills and an extremely high level of attention to detail.
  • An ability to engage on sensitive and potentially distressing subject matter, and to maintain confidence and discretion.
  • An ability to engage sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and across all classification levels.
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop an understanding of the complex social policy issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and a strong commitment to ongoing cultural capability development.
